    Update-Single Vehicle Fatal Collision

    On January 27, 2021, at 7:40 a.m., Oxnard Traffic Investigators responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision that occurred on Rose Avenue south of Cesar Chavez Drive.  Two passengers sustained serious injuries and a third passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Traffic Investigators identified Nathaniel Lamar Willis, a 32-year-old Oxnard resident, as the driver of the vehicle.

    Based on the investigation, it was determined that Willis was intoxicated when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree causing the death and injuries to his passengers.  As a result, on March 9, 2021, Traffic Investigators arrested Willis for one count of second-degree murder and DUI causing injury.  Willis was booked into the Ventura County Jail.

    On January 27, 2021, at approximately 0740 hours, officers were dispatched to Rose Ave. and Cesar Chavez regarding a single-vehicle traffic collision involving injuries. Upon arrival, officers found one passenger, a 71-year-old male, had been ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries on scene. The driver and two remaining passengers were trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed by Oxnard Fire Department personnel. All three occupants suffered significant injuries and were transported to area trauma centers where they are listed in critical condition.  

    Oxnard Police Department Traffic Investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation.  Based on the initial investigation, it is believed that speed is possibly a factor; however, investigators continue to seek additional information regarding this incident. Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Traffic Officer Adam Aguilar at (805) 385-7750, or online via the Oxnard Police Department’s website: www.oxnardpd.org, and clicking on Report Suspicious Activity.  You can remain anonymous if you choose to do so.
