Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Two Subjects in Simi
On Monday night, June 13, 2016, at about 11:23 p.m. an Officer on routine patrol in the area of Royal Ave. and Corto St. attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver failed to yield to the Officer and accelerated away westbound on Royal Ave.
A pursuit was initiated as the driver actively continued to evade, refusing to yield. The pursuit traveled to First St., then north to Simi Town Center Way westbound and south on Erringer Rd to Larch St. While attempting to make a westbound turn onto Larch, the driver lost control and collided with a tree.
At the termination of the pursuit two subjects fled on foot westbound through backyards in the neighborhood. The rear seat passenger remained in the vehicle. Officers responding to assist were quickly able to establish a perimeter in the area.
A subsequent search resulted in the detention and arrest of the driver, Chad Skogrand, 25 years and Christopher Alcarez, 19 years, both residents of Simi Valley. Skogrand, a validated gang member on parole, was charged with 2800.2 A VC, Felony Evading and Alcarez with 148 PC, Resisting or Delaying an Officer.
Both suspects were treated for minor injuries received during the traffic collision and booked at the Ventura County Main Jail for the noted charges. The rear seat passenger was released at the scene.
Other than minor damage to a citizen’s vehicle near the initiation point of the pursuit and damage to a City tree, no other property damage or injury resulted from this incident.
Chad Skogrand
