symptoms arial,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;”>On Friday, February 12th at 9:40am the Ventura Police Command Center received a 911 call of an injury traffic collision involving a bicyclist near the intersection of Main St. and Peking St. The first arriving officers found the bicyclist, a 67-year-old male, located on top of a vehicle, suffering from serious injuries. The bicyclist was treated at the scene by Ventura City Fire personnel and then transported to VCMC by AMR ambulance for treatment of his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Main St. and turned southbound directly into the path of a vehicle traveling westbound on Main St. The result of the collision launched the bicyclist onto the top of the vehicle that struck him. Due to the severity of injuries to the bicyclist, the Ventura Police Department Traffic Unit was called to the scene and will be handling the investigation. It appears that neither speed nor the influence of alcohol or drugs was a factor in the collision.

It’s a shame but from my personal observations, inevitable. Far too often I see cyclist’s that do not observe many of the rule’s of the road. Needless to say, there is a double obligation on the part of motor vehicle operators to be both the eyes of the car and the bicycle.
