Ventura | Bouncer assaulted with a Flashlight in Bar fight at The Tavern

Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release

On December 28th at 11:28 PM the Ventura Police Department Command Center received numerous 911 calls reporting several subjects in a physical fight to the front of The Tavern in the 200 block of E. Santa Clara St. Officers, along with Ventura City Fire and AMR personnel responded to the call and found one victim, later identified as a 37-year-old adult male, suffering from a non-life threatening head injury. He was treated at the scene and later transported to VCMC for treatment of his injuries. Several other subjects, including bouncers from the bar, were found to be involved in the fight.

During the investigation, officers learned that the victim and several of his friends had been drinking, and were refused entry into the bar. One of the victim’s friends got into a verbal argument with the bouncers. At one point during the argument, it turned physical and the fight ended up in the street to the front. The suspect, later identified as Alex Stewart, choked the victim and hit him several times over the head with a flashlight. Stewart works for The Tavern as a bouncer.

At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that Stewart’s force against the victim was unnecessary and he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. No other patrons or bouncers were injured as a result of this incident.
