On May 23rd at 2:26 AM a 911 call was received at the Fire Communication Center to report a structure fire at a business. Fire personnel arrived on scene within minutes of the initial call and found a single story commercial occupancy with heavy smoke and flames coming from the east side and roof of the building. Fire personnel ensured that the building was unoccupied and began an aggressive fire attack. The seat of the fire was located in the garage area of the repair shop and a large amount of water was used to extinguish the fire. The fire consumed a large portion the building garage which caused the roof to collapse and the exterior walls to fail. Firefighters knocked down and extinguished the fire within 30 minutes of initial 911 call and a primary search of the business confirmed that there were no victims inside the business.
Firefighters coordinated with Ventura Building and Safety to determine the final disposition of the building. The estimated damage to the structure was approximately $500,000 and personal losses were estimated to be at $100,000. The final cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Ventura City Fire Department would like to remind the public to ensure that all businesses have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and have an evacuation plan.Â
