Ventura City Fire puts out Brush fire on Shoulder of Hwy. 33

Ventura City Fire units responded, along with units from Ventura County Fire and Cal Fire, to multiple reports of a vegetation fire along the right shoulder of the NB 33 highway near Shell Road.

The first arriving companies reported approximately ¼ acre of brush, trees, and debris involved with fire, adjacent to a homeless encampment, with heavy smoke blowing across all lanes of traffic creating a significant hazard to both passing vehicles and fire personnel.

CHP and Cal Trans were requested to shut down the highway while fire personnel used hand tools and hose lines to contain, extinguish, and thoroughly overhaul the fire, taking approximately 90 minutes to complete the task.

No injuries were reported at the time of this release, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
