    We offer a comprehensive breadth of arts Associate and Certificate programs that prepare students for competitive Public and Private Universities and Art Colleges to continue their education toward Bachelor programs and beyond. We have a long history of highly successful students in the varied fields of the arts. Community members with life-long learning goals also attend our classes. Life-long learners find our courses and faculty enhance their creativity, guiding them in developing their artistic skills in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, digital arts, an instrument, or improving their voice open. Many life-long learners also enjoy learning to act, participating in our productions, and taking our wide variety of Art, Dance, Music, and Theatre Appreciation and History courses.

    The Music programs offer curriculum for both music majors and non-majors. While offering a broad understanding of the musical arts, the program is divided into four core areas: Music Theory, Music History and Literature, Instrumental Performance, and Vocal Performance. Majors are expected to have a breadth of knowledge of Tonal Harmony, Intermediate skills in piano proficiency, Individual lesson with student’s selected instrument of major, and performance experience with ensembles. To assist students to accomplish and develop their skills, the department has several performing ensembles, including, three levels of Vocal Ensembles, A Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Music Ensembles, Jazz Band, Opera and Musical Theater.

    The Theater Arts program offers an active production program both onstage and backstage by providing hands-on, high-quality academic theatre education and stage production experiences. The department believes theatre provides enrichment for both its participants and its audience, preparing students to go on to four-year universities, professional training programs, or to work in the theatre, film, and television industries. A comprehensive set of undergraduate courses fulfil general education and transfer requirements, and students may obtain an AA in Theatre Arts or work toward Proficiency Award in acting, directing, technical theatre production, costume, and make-up.

    The Dance program provides a core foundation set of dance practices accompanied by a choice of Performance or Composition programs. The Performance emphasis is intended for students who desire a formal course of study anchored in technical, pedagogical, historical, and compositional courses. Such as Modern, Ballet, Jazz, and Dance Performance. The Composition emphasizes the core course work in Modern, Ballet, and Jazz, along with Improvisation, and Composition courses explored in Dance Performance.

    The Visual Arts programs offer beginning and intermediate courses that provide students with the knowledge and experience for a broad understanding of visual arts. The beginning foundation courses are based in the belief that a strong foundation is the building block to insure student success in each of the art discipline areas. The foundation courses are: Color and Design, Drawing, Life Drawing, Three-Dimensional Design, Color Theory, and Art History. Upon completion of foundation courses students are encouraged to focus on one or more concentrated areas in, Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Graphic/Digital Design, or Art History.

    Performance and Show Opportunities for Students: Each program in our visual and performing arts offers opportunities for student shows and performances throughout the year at college and city events. In addition to the events listed in our Spring Calendar, we have an equal set of opportunities in the Fall semester. We also link students to performances and shows throughout the year in the College Community and in our City at large.
