Moorpark College, Oxnard College and Ventura College awarded a total of 7,475 Associate Degrees and Certificates to deserving students during commencement ceremonies held last week on each of the college campuses. “For more than a century, the three colleges of the Ventura County Community College District have served the educational needs of students and the community. Each college is strategically located, accessible and available to assist anyone who wants to pursue a college education,” stated VCCCD Chancellor Bernard Luskin. “Through ’open access,’ ’promise’ and ’pathways’ programs, the VCCCD continues to be the economic engine for the county, helping students meet their educational goals, while simultaneously fulfilling the workforce needs of the business community,” stated VCCCD Board Chair Bernardo Perez.
The VCCCD is the source through which a diverse group of “prepared and “unprepared” students begin their journey to higher education. It is the only single-district institution within the 113 California Community Colleges. Its three colleges serve the needs of all of the constituents in Ventura County, opening its doors to more than 50,000 students annually. The State of California, Department of Finance projects 47,886 students will graduate from high school in Ventura County from 2017-2021 – an average of 9,500 students per year.
“Commencement is a public celebration of the hard work students, families, faculty and staff have dedicated over the years to championing students’ dreams of graduating from college,” stated Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez. “This is a very special occasion for us as we salute the 50th graduating class of Moorpark College. Congratulations Class of 2017 and Moorpark College on our 50th anniversary,” added Sanchez.
“We are proud of the hard work each student dedicated to get them to this milestone. From our youngest graduate at 18 to our oldest at 80, we encourage them as they continue their education at universities or begin their journeys into exciting new careers,” said Oxnard College President Cynthia Azari.
“All of us at Ventura College are proud of this year’s graduating class. Their dedication, enthusiasm and perseverance have resulted in this significant accomplishment,” stated Ventura College President Greg Gillespie. “Our county will be well served by the skills and contributions that each graduate will bring to their community, the workplace and their home. Congratulations,” he concluded.
