    COVID-19 Update

Since Friday, there have been 621 new COVID-19 cases reported and 15,094 new tests completed. There are 131 people hospitalized and 24 in the ICU.

There have been 11 new deaths – ages ranging from 27-94. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the 1,359 community members who have passed away throughout the pandemic. Wellness Everyday offers grief and loss support and resources.

The R-effective for Ventura County is 0.55, meaning that the spread of COVID is likely decreasing.

Masks in schools: The California Department of Public Health announced today that the state will reassess masks in schools on February 28. The state will review cases, hospitalizations, vaccine rates and trends and make an announcement at that time. Local public health and local school districts are not authorized to change the state-issued mandate. Once the state provides more information in two weeks it will be shared. Dr. Mark Ghaly, California Secretary of Health and Human Services, stated in today’s message that it is likely that the change will go to masks being recommended rather than required based on data. More information about the State mask order can be found at https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/guidance-for-face-coverings.aspx

Testing: Due to a decrease in demand for COVID-19 testing, the 2 county sites in Oxnard and Moorpark will close on February 20, 2022. To find a state testing site, visit www.vcrecovers.org/testing
