Credit union and energy employees team up with American Red Cross to donate blood

Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU), a not-for-profit financial institution, and California Resources Corporation (CRC), the largest oil and natural gas exploration and production company in California, teamed up to sponsor an American Red Cross employee blood drive on Jan. 19 at their shared office headquarters in Ventura.

A total of 22 units were collected, which translates up to 66 lives saved, according to the American Red Cross. The donated blood gets scanned into a computer database, and then the tubes of blood are tested in Red Cross National Testing Laboratories. Once approved and received, units suitable for transfusion are labeled and stored. Then those units are shipped to hospitals in the community.

“Hosting a blood drive is an enriching experience and a great way to show support for those in need in the community,” said Beverly Armendariz, assistant vice president of human resources at VCCU. “Sponsoring this blood drive with CRC to benefit American Red Cross just seemed like the right thing to do, and we were happy to have the opportunity to participate. Thanks to all of the VCCU and CRC employee volunteers who donated.”
