Ventura County Credit Union Celebrates Youth Month
Credit union encourages local youth to be financially fit with events and promotions this April
Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU), a not-for-profit financial institution, invites Ventura County and Santa Barbara County communities to participate in National Credit Union Youth Month.
An initiative developed by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the Youth Month celebration is being hosted by VCCU under the national theme of “Credit Union Strong” to encourage youth to be physically and financially fit. Keeping in step with this national theme, all of VCCU’s activities and materials for Youth Month have the goals of educating and engaging youth so that they’re able to strengthen their finances.
During the month of April, VCCU’s youth members up to the age of 17 have the opportunity to enter into a drawing for a chance to win $25. The Youth Month Drawing is to have winners selected from each of VCCU’s seven branches, and the deposits are to be made directly into the winning youths’ accounts to help establish or grow their savings. To enter the drawing, youth are to fill out an entry form and bring it to their local VCCU branch. The credit union is also offering new youth members, who sign up for personal checking or saving account, a free custom VCCU water bottle while supplies last.
In addition to the Youth Month Drawing and water bottle, VCCU will be offering youth and parents informational materials on financial planning. Healthy snacks, coloring pages and more are also being provided at each of VCCU’s branch locations on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month of April. VCCU’s branch staff is also joining in the fitness theme by wearing workout gear on those designated days to serve as a conversation starter with youth throughout the month of April.
“Financial health is an important lesson to learn at any age, but youth can often be overlooked when it comes to financial education,” said Mandi Evans, VCCU’s digital marketing specialist. “We’re excited about the opportunity to focus our educational efforts on our younger members and local youth while encouraging them to be ‘Credit Union Strong.’”
