Ventura County Credit Union Helps Raise Funds for Ribbons of Life Charity

Local credit union partners with local breast cancer charity during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU) is proud to announce its partnership with the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation for the third consecutive year to raise funds in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In November 2015, VCCU donated $2,545 to Ribbons of Life through the generous contributions of VCCU members and employees. This year, the credit union hopes to exceed past contributions through the combination of bracelet sales and individual donations from VCCU members and staff.

During the month of October, the VCCU staff made a $10 donation which makes them eligible to wear a pink breast cancer awareness shirt and jeans every Wednesday. Additionally, VCCU sold breast cancer awareness $5 bracelets and $1 buttons to its members at its seven branches, and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the local nonprofit organization.

“We are proud to be a continuous supporter of Ribbons of Life,” said VCCU’s assistant vice president of marketing, Tina Estes. “We are always looking for ways to engage and support the Ventura County community, and Ribbons of Life is a remarkable charity helping those affected by breast cancer in our region. With approximately 600 women within Ventura County diagnosed with breast cancer each year, we are doing what we can to support Ribbons of Life’s mission: to provide breast cancer education, advocacy, emotional and social support within our county to women with breast cancer, their families and our community.”

Ribbons of Life was started in 2002 by three-time breast cancer survivor Lisa Barreto under the name Ventura College Breast Cancer Education and Advocacy Group and, with the help of numerous local women, their families and community supporters, the organization officially formed as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2007.

“I’d like to personally thank the staff and members of the Ventura County Credit Union for their dedicated fundraising efforts to support the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation for the past three years,” said Barreto. “With their generosity, we are able to continue to provide various special events, educational programs, and support projects to directly help women with breast cancer in Ventura County.
