Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU) is proud to announce its partnership with the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of October, VCCU will be selling breast cancer awareness buttons at each of its seven branches, and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the local nonprofit organization.

In November of 2014, VCCU donated $2,353 to Ribbons of Life through the generous contributions of VCCU members and employees. This year, the credit union hopes to exceed that amount through the combination of button sales and individual donations from VCCU members and staff.

“We are always looking for ways to engage and support the Ventura County community,” said VCCU’s assistant vice president of marketing, Tina Estes. “Ribbons of Life has made huge strides in providing support and programs for those in our region living with breast cancer, and we are so proud to be supporting this cause and foundation for the second consecutive year.”

Ribbons of Life was first started in 2002 by breast cancer survivor Lisa Barreto under the name Ventura College Breast Cancer Education and Advocacy Group and, with the help of numerous local women, their families and community supporters, the organization officially formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2007. The funds raised by VCCU during the month of October will be used to support Ribbons of Life’s various education projects, support programs and special events.

“Our county has thousands of women living with breast cancer and countless others who are directly affected,” Barreto said. “With the help of our generous partners, like Ventura County Credit Union, we are able to provide these women and their loved ones with the encouragement and support they deserve.”
