Ventura County Garden Club Installs 2015/2016 Officers
By Sheryl Hamlin
On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, the Ventura County Garden Club installed new officers for the 2015/2016 club year. Forty gardeners enjoyed lunch at the Saticoy Country Club thanks to member Linda Kelly who sponsored the luncheon.

Each year, the club raises money through plant sales for a designated beautification project. Last year, the project was a bench in the Saticoy Veterans’ facility. This year the gift is a set of books on low water gardening and lawns for the Blanchard Community Library.

Accepting the gift books for the Blanchard Library Board of Trustees were Linda Spink, President, and Laura Phillips. Linda said that low-water gardening is such a popular topic she expects these books to be checked out continually.

As tradition dictates, the outgoing President reads the duties of the new President and passes the gavel. Janet Foy reflected on her two terms as President before passing the gavel to Linda Wilkinson, the incoming president.

The club recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and currently has 60 members from across the county. Monthly meetings or field trips highlight gardening in Ventura County. A past meeting highlighted succulents. The next meeting will be September 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the meeting room of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on 7th Street near Main Street in Santa Paula.
