Ventura County rideshare drivers can now serve passengers at local Navy bases

Lyft, Uber and other app-based rideshare company drivers can now pick up and drop off customers at both Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu and Port Hueneme locations. In the past, rideshare drivers have only been able to access local bases when dropping off passengers with defense department identification cards. The Navy’s new rideshare program will enable approved drivers to pick up and deliver passengers on local bases with their own rideshare credentials.

Rideshare drivers must first submit a background check application to the Navy, which can be found at https://www.military.com/base-guide/naval-base-ventura-county and searching for “secnav 5512/1”. For expedited processing, drivers should email the completed form to [email protected]. (Drivers should type “RIDESHARE” in the subject line of the email). Upon notification of a favorable background check, the drivers will be notified to pick up their credentials at the Naval Base Ventura County Visitor Control Center Port Hueneme at Building 1183 which is located just outside Sunkist Gate on South Ventura Road. At the Visitor Control Center, the driver will be fingerprinted and complete the process. The wait time at Pass and ID with this expedited processing is typically 15 minutes to one hour. Drivers who arrive at the Visitor Control Center without expedited processing could wait 1-2 hours.  There is no cost for the application, expedited processing or credentials.

Naval Base Ventura County will issue each driver a base access badge upon completion of the process. The driver should then upload the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card to their Uber Driver app. Credentialed drivers will be able to serve both Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu and Port Hueneme locations.

Brenda Hunter

Hello,

I am looking for a ride, (car pool or Van) to Port Hueneme Navy Base. I am a single rider looking to join a van pool as soon as possible.

I live in Lancaster, I can leave from Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita or anywhere in the Antelope Valley.
I need to commute to 1183 N. Ventura Road, Port Hueneme, CA 93041
It’s round-trip miles is that?
I will be using the vanpool 5 days per week.
I do not know if my employer have a commuter subsidy.

Hope you can help me.
