Ventura County Veterans Honored at Special Ceremony

On Wednesday, June 27, Cypress Place Senior Living community in Ventura held its 10th Annual Salute Our Veterans event. The event honored former military personnel – both Cypress Place residents and members of the public – for their service and sacrifices.

Widows, widowers and parents of veterans were also received recognition at the special ceremony.

92-year-old Cypress Place resident Jim Gordy receives a folded flag on behalf of all veterans in attendance. Gordy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Pipe Major Bill Boetticher leads marching procession of the 1st Memorial Honors Detail. Boetticher is a nationally renowned musician whose notable performances include the 100th Birthday Celebration for President Gerald R. Ford and the funeral for First Lady Nancy Reagan. The 1st Memorial Honors Detail conducts military funeral honors when the
U.S. Military is unable to provide an Honor Guard team. Since its inception in 2004, the group has provided services for 622 Veterans and their families.
