Ventura County Waterworks puts up website to help users save H2O
With the drought in its fourth year, and water supplies in short supply, Ventura County Waterworks has put up a helpful site for the districts under its management. At Slow Your H20 you can check for usage updates, watering schedules and tips on saving what has become a very precious commodity in California.
On April 1st Governor Brown mandated water use be cut by 25%. That mandate has made its way down the supply chain with the possibility of steep surcharges for districts that don’t meet conservation goals. To avoid passing these hefty fines to the end user, agencies are doing public outreach with mailers, road signage and the internet. Of the four districts under Ventura County Waterworks listed below only Moorpark has to do better than 25%. Their goal has been set at a 32% reduction based on their 2013 water use.
The Water and Sanitation Department has also presented information to local community groups, including the Bell Canyon Homeowners Association and the Moorpark City Council. The Department is scheduled to make a presentation to executives of Moorpark Homeowners Associations on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, and to the Somis MAC on Thursday, July 23, 2015.
Also, in partnership with the University of California Master Gardeners Program, the City of Moorpark, and Calleguas Municipal Water District, free water conservation workshops have been offered to customers, and more workshops will be announced shortly.
“With the new water conservation mandates ramping up, it is vital that we all work together to help to reduce water usage during the drought,” said David Sasek, Director of the Water and Sanitation Department.
The public can also stay up-to-date on how the drought is impacting the Districts by following Ventura County Public Works Agency on Facebook.
