Ventura–Elementary School put on lockdown while suspect flees scene of bank robbery

Ventura Police  received a call from Chase Bank security reporting that a bank robbery had just occurred at the Chase Bank branch at 7730 Telegraph Rd.  When officers arrived at the bank, physician they determined the suspect had already fled and was last seen leaving the area on a bicycle.  

During the investigation, officers learned the suspect entered the bank and approached the counter.  He handed the clerk a note stating he was armed with a gun and demanded the clerk give him money from the register.  No weapon was seen.  The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and he fled the bank on foot.  Witnesses outside the bank reported seeing the suspect leave the area on the bicycle. 

As a precaution, Juanamaria Elementary School was placed on lockdown for approximately 15 minutes, until officers assured the students and staff was safe.

No on was injured as a result of this incident. 


The FBI was notified and will be assisting Ventura PD Major Crimes in the investigation.
