Officers arrived on scene and spoke with witnesses who told them that the suspect, identified as 53 year old Ventura resident,  Lonnie Ellis, had threatened two family members with a knife and fled the residence on foot. They did not know if Ellis was still armed with the knife.

Moments later an officer observed Ellis emerge from the garage and when Ellis saw the officer he retreated back into the garage out of view.

Additional officers were requested to respond to assist and help set a perimeter around the garage as other officers moved the family members to an area of safety.

Ellis emerged from the garage several times but refused the officers orders to exit and surrender.

Officers negotiated with Ellis for over 30 minutes at which time he surrendered and was taken into custody with no further incident. None of the family members that Ellis had threatened were injured and were allowed to return to their residence.

Traffic on Lafayette St was impacted during this incident due to the number of emergency vehicles on scene.

Ellis was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center due to a medical condition unrelated to this incident. Once he is cleared he will be transported to the Ventura County Main Jail and booked on 2 felony counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon.
