Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On Janaury 19th at 7:30PM, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call of a suspicious subject loitering near a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of Conway Ave. Officers responded to the call and contacted the subject, later identified as Erik Lopez.
During the investigation, officers learned that Lopez was on probation and conducted a search of his vehicle. As a result of the search, officers found a loaded handgun concealed near the driver’s seat, ammunition, body armor and property which belonged to a state law enforcement agency that was possibly stolen. Officers also found a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Lopez was arrested for multiple charges including carrying a loaded firearm, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, felon in possession of body armor, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows Lopez has prior convictions for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant, false imprisonment, possession of a controlled substance, and disobeying a court order.
