Media Press Release:
On May 31st at 12:13am, a 911 call was received at the Fire Communication Center to report a fire in a roll off dumpster. Fire personnel arrived on scene within minutes of the initial call and found a large amount of smoke and flames coming from a large roll off dumpster to the rear of a commercial building in the 100 block of S. Oak St., Ventura, Ca.Â
Fire personnel performed a primary and secondary search of the dumpster and surrounding areas and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes of arrival. There were 5 units and 11 Fire Personnel on-scene as well as the Ventura Police Department.
Due to a large amount of trash contents in the dumpster, fire personnel performed extensive overhaul to ensure that the deep–seated fire was completely extinguished. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident and property damage was limited to charring to the dumpster. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Ventura City Fire Department would like to remind the public to ensure that all residences and businesses have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and have an evacuation plan.
