Ventura man arrested after foot pursuit

Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release

On October 3rd at 4:24 PM, a Ventura Patrol officer was driving in the 600 block of Main St. when a local business owner hailed him. The owner pointed out the suspect (Richard Aguirre 59 yrs. Ventura resident) and told the officer that Aguirre was causing a disturbance and trying to start fights with people walking in the area. The officer turned around his police car and went to contact Aguirre.

Seeing the officer coming, Aguirre started to run away from the officer. The officer ordered Aguirre several times to stop however Aguirre refused to obey. After a short foot pursuit the officer caught Aguirre and took him to the ground. As the officer struggled to get Aguirre into handcuffs a concerned citizen jumped in and assisted the officer in subduing Aguirre and placing him under arrest.

Aguirre suffered a minor injury to his face and was medically cleared at a local hospital. The officer nor the concerned citizen sustained any injuries. According to the Ventura County Superior Court website, Aguirre has prior convictions for disturbing the peace and possession of a controlled substance.
