Ventura: Man stabbed–Suspect still at large
On November 21, Saturday, at 10pm a Ventura Police Officer was patrolling the parking lot of the Mission Plaza shopping center, when he was hailed by the victim who reported that he had just been robbed. Ventura resident, 52 year old Robert Mata was suffering from non-life threatening laceration to his abdomen. The Ventura City Fire Department was immediately summoned to treat Mata for his injuries. He was treated at the scene and later transported to VCMC for treatment of his injuries.
During the investigation, officers learned Mata had just purchased items inside the Rite Aid store and was confronted by the suspect near the front of the store. The suspect demanded Mata give him money. When he refused to comply with the suspect’s demands, the suspect removed a knife and threatened Mata. The suspect then began slashing at Mata with the knife, cutting him several times in the abdomen.
Mata gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and alcohol that he had just purchased from the store. The suspect, only described as a black man in his 30’s, fled the scene on foot and was last seen running westbound towards Olive St.
This crime is still being investigated. The Ventura Police Department is asking if anyone has information related to this incident, please contact the department at 339-4488.
