Ventura | Officer injured by Vagrant
Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On November 23rd at 8:27 PM, a Ventura patrol officer saw a subject laying down on the sidewalk in the area of Chestnut and Thompson. The officer contacted the subject identified as Michael Anderson and learned he was on probation. More Ventura police officers arrived on the scene, and they began to conduct a probation search on Anderson. During the search, Anderson made a direct threat to one of the officers. The threat was credible, and Anderson was arrested for the threat.
While in the back of the patrol unit Anderson started to hit his head against the partition separating the front and back seats. He also moved the handcuffs to the front of his body. Wanting to protect Anderson from doing more harm to himself the officers decided to remove him from the patrol car and transport him by ambulance to obtain medical clearance for booking. Anderson refused to exit the patrol car and attempted to kick one the officers. A struggle ensued, and Anderson was eventually removed from the patrol car and taken to the ground. During the takedown, Anderson suffered a cut to his forehead, and an officer was injured. Both the officer and Anderson were taken to a local hospital and were treated for minor injuries.
After medical treatment, Anderson was transported to VCJ and booked for felony battery on a peace officer, and felony resisting a peace officer. A search of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Anderson has been arrested six times in 2018, three of those cases are still open. The officer returned to work after being treated.
