Ventura Pier closed due to high surf

press_release_iconVentura Police Department

On 12/11/15 at approximately 0700 hours, the Ventura Police Command Center received information that high surf conditions were causing waves to break over the pier.  Patrol officers responded to the pier and confirmed that waves were crashing onto the pier and had possibly caused some damage to the structure of the pier.  The few citizens that were on the pier were evacuated and the pier was closed to the public at approximately 0710 hours.

The extent of the damage to the pier is not clear at this point.  The pier will remain closed, indefinitely, while the conditions remain dangerous and the damage is being assessed.  Though surfers and ocean enthusiasts may be tempted to go into the water, we highly discourage citizens from entering the ocean during high surf conditions.
