Ventura police arrest thief in early morning break-in

Just past 3am Sunday morning, September 28th, Police were called out to the 6000 block of Woodland St.  An unknown intruder inside the residence.

Officers responded and as they arrived on scene they detained a possible suspect exiting the side yard of the residence carrying personal property. The occupants of the residence were accounted for and were not injured.

Police checked the interior of the residence and no other suspects were located. An investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as 38 year old Oxnard resident, Pedro Gomez, was a former acquaintance of 41 year old  Minerva Huante who was not home at the time. Gomez broke into Huante’s residence through an unlocked window and removed property from a bedroom. He was attempting to leave the area when the officers detained him.

Huante was contacted by phone and confirmed that the property Gomez had in his possession came from her residence and that Gomez did not have permission to be there.

Gomez was arrested and when searched he was found to be in possession of additional items stolen from the victims residence along with narcotic paraphernalia.

The victims property was released back the other residents. Gomez was transported to the Ventura County Main Jail and booked on the charges of 459 PC – Burglary and 11364.1 H&S – Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia
