Ventura police nab parole violator after pursuit through residential area

This afternoon, buy August 1st, at approximately 2pm, a Ventura patrol officer observed the suspect, 53 year old Ventura resident Stephen Reid commit a traffic violation while riding a motorcycle at the intersection of Riverside and Ramona Street.  The officer was familiar with Reid and knew him to be on active parole.

The officer attempted an enforcement stop on Reid for the infraction and Reid failed to yield.  Reid quickly accelerated away traveling east on Ramona Street toward Venture Avenue while the officer pursued.  Reid traversed through a residential area for approximately one additional mile until he eventually rode his motorcycle into open field located north of Kellogg Street.  The officer was unable to continue the pursuit due to the limited access into the open field.

A Ventura police officer was training at the Ventura Police Range, located on the hillside above where Reid was fleeing, and was able to maintain a visual observation of Reid. The officer broadcast Reid’s movements to responding officers who located Reid fleeing on foot a short distance from where he abandoned his motorcycle.

Reid was placed under arrest for evading a police officer, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance and a parole violation.  No one was hurt during the course of the pursuit.
