Ventura: Road rage defendant sentenced
VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Paul Mailhot (DOB 12/29/1945), of Newbury Park, was sentenced to 210 days jail, 36 months formal probation, one year license suspension and anger management classes on March 7, 2014, by Ventura County Superior Court Judge David Hirsch. Mailhot had been convicted of manslaughter in the death of Thomas Williams of Camarillo on January 17, 2014.
On December 14, 2011, Mailhot was driving a Corvette southbound on Highway 101, in the area of Oxnard. Defendant was traveling at a high rate of speed, tailgating
other drivers, weaving in and out of traffic, and cutting other drivers off. While near the Pleasant Valley Road exit, the defendant became enraged at another driver, cut her off as she was lawfully merging into the same lane, and gestured at the driver with his middle finger. Defendant then made another sharp turn into the number one lane, lost control of his vehicle, fishtailed, and ultimately crashed into the victim’s vehicle. This action caused Mr. Williams’ vehicle to become airborne and leave the highway. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
The new sentence is in addition to the time he is serving on his slaughter conviction for this same incident.
