 Location:  Main St. at Lemon Grove Ave. Ventura, Ca.

 Date/Time Occurred:  October 21, 2014 at 6:19 a.m.

 Officer(s) Involved:  Ventura Police Department Patrol Officers, Traffic Investigators and Ventura City Fire Department.

 Parties Involved: Driver: James Isom, 74 year-old Camarillo resident

Pedestrian: Name and information withheld pending family members being notified.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 6:09 a.m., the Ventura Police Department Command Center received one 9-1-1 call regarding a newer red corvette driven by an elderly male. The elderly male appeared to be driving erratically and stopping at green lights in the area of Main St at the entrance to the Pacific View Mall from Lemon Grove Drive.

Shortly thereafter, at 6:19 a.m., the command center received an additional call regarding the same vehicle, which was involved in a serious injury traffic collision at Main St. and Lemon Grove Ave. Ventura Ca. Ventura Police patrol officers arrived at the scene and found a male pedestrian laying in the roadway with serious injuries. The driver who was identified as, James Isom (74 year-old male) was on scene uninjured and checking on the injured pedestrian.   

Due to the severity of the collision, the Ventura Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. After a preliminary investigation, it appears that the pedestrian was walking northbound on Lemon Grove Ave. crossing near Main St. The driver, James Isom, was driving westbound on Main St. through the intersection of Lemon Grove Ave. on a green phase signal light. The driver, James Isom, struck the pedestrian (name withheld) who was walking northbound Main St. at the west crosswalk. The Ventura City Fire Department and AMR responded to render medical for serious injuries related to the traffic collision.

Subsequently, the pedestrian was transported to Ventura County Medical Center and is currently listed in critical condition. The driver, James Isom was not injured and released at the scene. The collision is still under investigation to determine if other factors played a role in the accident.
