UPDATE–SUSPECT ARRESTED IN WOUNDING OF 9 YEAR OLD in Ventura

vialis 40mg arial,sans-serif;”>***Update: During the investigation of this incident, Ventura Police Detectives identified Mauricio Chavez as a suspect in this crime. On 07/01/2015 Ventura Police Detectives served a search warrant at the residence of Chavez. Chavez was arrested at that time for possessing a billy club and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. These charges were unrelated to the shooting investigation.

 Ventura Police detectives continued with the shooting investigation and on July 24th, 2015 Chavez was contacted at Ventura County Jail and arrested for his involvement in the shooting and booked for attempt murder and street terrorism. Additional suspects in this incident have yet to be identified and the investigation is continuing.

 June 23rd, Tuesday, approximately 4pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received numerous 911 calls of a shooting that had just occurred in the 400 Block of W. Ramona St. Patrol officers, along with Ventura City Fire and AMR personnel, responded to the call and initially found a 9-year-old female victim suffering from a non-life threatening grazing wound to her leg. She was transported to VCMC for treatment of her injury. While officers were on scene on Ramona St, the Command Center received a second call reporting a shooting victim in the 300 Block of W. Park Row. The adult male victim was found to be suffering from a non-life threatening injury. The suspect(s) are not known at this time and possibly fled from the area on foot.

Officers are currently on scene and conducting an active investigation. Ventura Police Department Major Crimes Detectives are also responding to the scene. There is no additional information at this time. An additional press release will be sent out when the information is available.
