Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On February 8th at 4:50 AM, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from an alarm company reporting a video alarm being activated at Ocean Honda in the 6400 block of Auto Center Dr. It was also reported there was an unknown subject loitering on the property.
Officers responded to the call and upon arrival saw a subject, later identified as Paul Thornton, walking from the direction dealership. Thornton matched the description that was seen on the alarm company’s video surveillance cameras. Officers attempted to detain Thornton and he violently resisted. After a brief struggle, Thornton was taken into custody.
During a search of the business, officers found a smashed window and determined that entry had been made. Thornton was found to be in possession of stolen keys from the dealership. He was also carrying a hammer, which was possibly used to break the window.
After being medically cleared for a minor injury he sustained during the arrest, Thornton was arrested for commercial burglary and felony resisting arrest.
No officers were injured as a result of this incident.
A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Thornton has prior convictions of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, disturbing the peace, and forgery.
