Vision To Reality: Downtown Arts Hub Community Meeting

The City of Oxnard Cultural Arts Commission and the Cultural and Community Services Department are hosting a community meeting to discuss and finalize recommendations for the proposed Downtown Arts Hub.  The community meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center and in the Ventura Room, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  A networking mixer with refreshments will take place from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m.

Art and cultural experiences and opportunities are essential in stimulating revitalization, innovation, and re-investment in downtown.  The first community meeting (State of the Arts) was held in May 2017 at the Oxnard Main Library and there was standing room only.  Oxnard artists, performers, arts organizations, business leaders, and others engaged in dynamic discussions on a collective vision and priority setting exercise that resulted in several ideas and concepts for consideration.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the Cultural Arts Commissioners will present preliminary recommendations from the work they completed with members from the public and steering committees.  In addition, the facilitator will engage the participants in discussions and exercises to solicit additional ideas and comments for the arts hub.

Ultimately, the recommendations will be compiled into a business plan and funding recommendations for the city council’s consideration.  The goal is for the plan will highlight the cultural and artistic capital of Oxnard’s community and foster synergy between Oxnard’s creative resources and downtown businesses to promote the downtown as a destination for dynamic arts experiences.
