On 05/09/2019, at approximately 10:24 AM, a patrol deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Hartglen Avenue in Westlake Village for a call of animal cruelty. The deputy determined a dog suffered some type of trauma at the residence and (S) Devon Joelson was identified as possibly being responsible.
Detectives with the Thousand Oaks Police Department were assigned the case and continued the investigation. Detectives worked closely with a local veterinary hospital to conduct a necropsy to determine a cause of death. Based on the results of the necropsy, it was determined the dog died from injuries as a result of blunt force trauma.
On 06/06/2019, detectives presented their investigation to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. As a result of the presentation, the District Attorney’s Office filed one count of PC 597(a)– felony animal cruelty.
On 06/07/2019, the Directed Enforcement Unit located Joelson in the city of Westlake and took him into custody for the outstanding warrant without incident.
Joelson was booked into the East Valley Jail for animal cruelty. Joelson posted bail and is due to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on 06/24/2019 for arraignment.
