Why are the Pleasant Valley Parks closed on July 4th in Camarillo?
To our Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District Board Members,
Village at the Park residents are upset by today’s closure of the PV Fields, our neighborhood park. Every year, our location within the neighborhood makes walking to the fields to view fireworks a safe alternative to the traffic-ridden ACHS neighborhoods while also encouraging families to watch a safe, professional fireworks show versus attempting our own backyard version. 4th of July at these fields has become a tradition for not only VATP residents, but many others within our community as well.
This year, we’re dismayed to see the fields are closed and “locked” for the specific intention of keeping us out.
As potential homebuyers and renters in this VATP neighborhood, we were advertised the fields as an added amenity. “Within steps of the Pleasant Valley Fields and Sports Park!” the real estate listings say. Some condo and townhouse residents are even provided gate keys to the fields, ensuring access to this amenity. All year, we endure traffic that these fields create (year-round soccer, big tournaments with out of towners, 5Ks, etc. with parking that overflows into our residential streets) but are now being locked out of them for an event that – of all things – celebrates freedom.
We are asking for access to our neighborhood park back tonight. Please make this happen, we are counting on you.
Thank you, Megan Hook, Rebecca and Kevin Carasco, Tanisha DuBransky, Heather Moch, Walter and Susan Lopatka, Guy and Pam Fisher, Lu Miana, Robert Casanova, Scott and Kristen Compton, Jeff and Lori McVicker, Elizabeth and John Eversen

Could funding be the issue? Would the Parks Department have to pay overtime for employee’s that manage the park?
