Will $1 Billion Spending on California’s Homeless Fix the Problem?

    .

By Stephen Frank,  California Political News and Views

Government is predictable.  The more you spend on a “problem”, the bigger the problem gets.  Just look at the environmental issues.  The more government spends on studies and reports, the bigger the problem.  The phony report from USC earlier this year claiming, this is not a joke, that POLLUTION CAUSES TEENAGE OBESITY.  No, not eating too many French fries or cheesecake, nope climate change is causing obesity.  I bet you thought USC was a legitimate?   This is the school that gave us the abusive gynecologist, the massive bribery scandal and more.

Now we have billions being spent to get the homeless off the street and that problem has become worse.

“A recent report found that Los Angeles spent $619 million last year on the homeless crisis, but have little to show for it. Officials continue to claim that building housing for the homeless will solve the problem. However, not so long ago Los Angeles authorized the building of tiny homes for homeless.

But the tiny homes became tiny crack houses and heroin dens, as well as health hazards. Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation officials then seized the tiny houses from homeless people in South Los Angeles, in a sweep of areas under freeways after finding needles, drug setups and even a gun.”

Give the government a problem and you make it worse.

The constant that seems to never change is that politicians only have one simplistic answer to every problem……toss other peoples money at it without analyzing the cause.

Agree! I have never seen a politician work himself out of job! If I ever do, I will vote for that politician until they want to retire.

    Well stated CE!

Government never really wants to fix a problem. After all, too many jobs depend on the problem continuing to exist. If the homeless disappeared overnight what would all the folks who are gainfully employed “helping the homeless” do for work? If our rivers and streams were so clean one could drink straight from hem without a concern of catching any of a myriad diseases or ingesting some noxious chemicals, what would all the folks employed at the EPA do for employment? What would the senators and congressmen who serve on the various committees and more importantly as chairmen of those committees do to stroke their egos?

No, one billion won’t fix the homeless problem. What will fix the problem is zero dollars. No freebies. Actual jail time at hard labor for urinating in public, public intoxication, loitering, panhandling, creating a hostile environment for the folks who enjoy their intoxicated state and are supported in it by a variety of folks who misguidedly are enabling them or politicians who hope to make political gain by espousing continued enabling programs with ever increasing tax payer supported programs and employment. No, sorry, cutting them off cold turkey will solve the problem, not more money.

We also need to give serious attention to once again providing involuntary institutional mental health treatment for those folks who, while they are not currently homicidal, suicidal or catatonic, have a strong propensity toward those states. Handing a mentally ill person a bottle of pills and telling that person to take them and come back when they run out is like handing a couple of ace bandages and a box of plaster of paris to someone with a broken leg and telling them to wrap the ace bandages around the break and smear plaster of paris over it all and cut it off when their leg feels like it is better. The big difference is that mental illness prevents the patient from seeking medical treatment, whereas the broken leg patient actively seeks proper medical care.

There are multiple causes (reasons) for homelessness. Some want to get out of homelessness, some don’t and others don’t know there’s a problem due to drugs o other mental illness. The best that could happen is that those who really want out of homelessness seek and receive help. The rest of the homeless are vagrants and should be treated as such in accordance of vagrancy laws; if they still exist.
