Woman Arrested for Arson in Ojai Inn Fire
Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On June 21, 2018, a woman was arrested for arson after setting fires at the Ojai Valley Inn in the City of Ojai.
At about 1:56 a.m., the Ventura County Fire Department responded to a fire at the Ojai Valley Inn. Upon arrival, fire personnel found evidence of several fires around the property. Due to the suspicious nature of these fires, fire department personnel requested the assistance of deputies from the Ojai Police Department. Arson investigators from the Ventura County Fire Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit also responded to the scene.
Arson investigators conducted their investigation and found evidence of multiple fires that had been set in dry brush around the property, along with another inside a large maintenance/storage facility. Fortunately, the building’s fire sprinklers kept the fire from getting out of control before fire department personnel could arrive and extinguish it. At this time, the total damage caused by these fires is estimated at over $10,000.00.
The investigation determined that the suspect, 35 year old Ojai resident, Maria Christine Ramirez-Pichardo was responsible for setting the fires. Ramirez-Pichardo was arrested for one count of felony arson and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $55,000.00 bail. Ramirez-Pichardo is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on June 25, 2018.
