Competition gets underway Sunday
California trio, Marc Castro (Fresno, Calif.), 2015 Junior World Champion and 2016 Youth World Champion, Citlalli Ortiz (Coachella, Calif.) and Iyana Verduzco (Los Angeles, Calif.), 2018 Youth World Champion, joins 2016 Youth World Champion Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio) and 2018 Youth World Champion Asa Stevens (Waianae, Hawaii), as well as Kreps, at the fourth and final Trials Qualifying Event, along with 300 other elite boxers (aged 18-40) with hopes of punching their tickets to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing that will take place in Lake Charles, La. this December.\Five World Champions and recent 2019 Elite Women’s World Championships bronze medalist Mikiah Kreps (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) highlight the field for the 2019 USA Boxing Last Chance Qualifier that gets underway Nov. 3 in Oxnard, Calif. alongside the 2019 National PAL Championships.
The week-long tournament will run through Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Oxnard PAL Teen Center. The two finalists in each of the 13 Olympic weight classes will join the other qualified boxers in Louisiana. Boxers competing in the intermediate (aged 13-14), junior (aged 15-16) and youth (aged 17-18) division will be boxing for the National PAL Championship title.
Boxing will begin Sunday night at 6:00 p.m., with two sessions (12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.) daily, Monday-Thursday, and one 12:00 p.m. session on Friday and Saturday.
