    Guys and Dolls Jr

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Young Artists Ensemble and Conejo Theatre for Everyone present GUYS AND DOLLS JR,  directed and choreographed by Jess Coffman April 16 – 18, 2021 livestreamed Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm. It will also be projected onto a giant screen at Conejo Creek Equestrian Center, 1350 E. Avenida de Las Flores in Thousand Oaks, Friday and Saturday only at 7:30 pm.  Musical Direction is by Susan Treworgy-Calkins.

This show features 23 performers who rehearsed and filmed under COVID-safe conditions at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts.  This was accomplished by placing the actors into three pods of 10 actors or less, who used the outdoor patio “safety stage” – a 60 ft. long platform that provides each of the ten performers with a 6 ft. by 4 ft. performance area enclosed on the sides, back, and top.  The Therapeutic Recreation Unit and Young Artists Ensemble combine to present this show featuring performers with and without disabilities in a unique theatre experience called CONEJO THEATRE FOR EVERYONE.

“We’ve been learning quite a bit since our Teen Summer Musical production of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE,” says producer Megan McDonough.  “We’re reusing and improving on many of those safety features in our open outdoor space to allow these gifted performers to have an outlet for their creativity during this difficult time.”

With a brassy, immortal score by Frank Loesser, GUYS AND DOLLS JR. is set in Damon Runyon’s New York City.  Nathan Detroit is a gambler trying to find the cash to set up the biggest crap game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. Meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for fourteen years without ever getting married. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown. GUYS AND DOLLS JR. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but everyone eventually ends up right where they belong.

A YouTube Live streaming link will be emailed with ticket confirmation. Those who wish to view the live stream at Conejo Creek Equestrian Center in a Drive-In Movie style from their car may also purchase a ticket.  Tickets can be purchase online through the honor system for $15 for one person, $25 for a family.  Tickets to attend the drive-in style movie presentation are $25 per car.   There are restrictions for the drive in theatre, and the performers will not be there in person.  Purchase all tickets by calling online at www.yaeonline.com.  Call (805) 381-2747 or visit www.yaeonline.com if you have any questions.
