Young Artists Ensemble’s Hillcrest Players Presents Farmageddon and The Undercover Crop

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Young Artists Ensemble’s Hillcrest Players presents FARMAGEDDON AND THE UNDERCOVER CROP written and directed by Victoria Sayeg at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 West Hillcrest Drive on March 14 and 21, 2020 at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.

About the original published play:  Everyone loves a good crop circle—that is, everyone but world-renowned peanut planter Farmer Carter. This fine farmer is devastated to learn his entire year’s yield of peanuts has been damaged by someone—or something—just a day before the circus comes to town! With the help of his wife, Eleanor, and their junk-food-addicted twin daughters, Farmer Carter hires a private investigator to get to the bottom of this perplexing peanut puzzle. Maybe it was their neighbors, jealous of Farmer Carter’s successful crop year after year. Or was it, perhaps, the protest group CIABATTA, Circus Is Always Bad and Torturous Toward Animals, or even NAAN, Nomads Against Animal Neglect, fighting to eliminate the circus? Could it have been the old farmer himself trying to collect insurance money? Or could this be the work of something a little more … supernatural? Bigfoot? Aliens? The detective pairs up with her voice-over double—her own conscience! In the style of film noir! —to explore all these possibilities and turns up a single jar of peanut butter, a clown performing dentistry, the world’s worst juggler, a beautiful bearded lady and a mad scientist, but no real leads. Fed up and burnt out, she heads to the local juice joint to gain some perspective but receives only a single ticket to the circus, which is a good thing, because things are going nutty over there, too! The clown suddenly breaks a lifetime of silence to reveal that he has traveled through time and space to put his foot down, once and for all, and to reveal the source of the crop circle and save the future of food everywhere!

Hillcrest Players gives young people an opportunity to flex their artistic muscles in a one act play providing young performers with a positive experience to increase self-esteem, self-awareness and self-discipline.
