Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On July 15 at 7:17 officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the 6800 block of Auto Center Dr. Officers, along with Ventura City Fire and AMR personnel, found the victim, later identified as a 40-year-old male, suffering from non-life threatening wounds to his face and front torso. He was immediately transported to VCMC for treatment of his injuries.
During the investigation officers learned that the victim was in the Santa Clara River Bottom when he was confronted by the suspect, later identified as Rudolpho Carazoles., DOB: 07/24/81, Vagrant. The suspect, who was not known to the victim, was armed with a knife and for unknown reasons assaulted the victim with the knife. After the attack the suspect fled from the river bottom on foot.
An officer responding to the call saw Carazoles nearby on Johnson Dr. and attempted to detain him. Carazoles refused to stop and fled onto the pedestrian crossing for Highway 101 towards Oxnard. The officer chased after Carazoles and caught him on the bridge, at which time he fought with the officer. Carazoles struggled with officers for several minutes until he was taken into custody.
One officer received a minor hand injury as a result of the altercation. Carazoles was not injured.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Carazoles was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, felony resisting arrest and for being a post release offender.
A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Carazoles has prior convictions for resisting arrest, possession of dangerous weapon, and being a convicted felon.
