Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On 08/30/2019, at approximately 8:30 PM, deputies at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility discovered that 38 year old Ojai resident Alexander Beirne was experiencing a medical emergency in his cell. Deputies immediately began to render aid and summoned jail medical staff. Ventura City Fire and American Medical Response personnel also responded to provide more advanced care. Ultimately, Mr. Beirne was transported by ambulance to the Community Memorial Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced deceased at 9:51 PM.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates the causes of all inmate deaths.
