Arrest for Manufacturing of Assault Weapons and other Firearms

Ventura County Sheriff – – Incident Press Release

During the months of July and August 2020, detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Special Crimes Unit worked in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit regarding (S) Joshua Horek who was believed to be involved in the unlawful manufacturing and sales of firearms.

On August 26, 2020, at about 2:45 PM, detectives with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit conducted an enforcement stop on Joshua Horek near his residence in Ventura. He was detained and found to be in possession of 9 unregistered and loaded firearms inside his vehicle. Those firearms were believed to be unlawfully manufactured by Horek.

Following Horek’s detention, detectives executed search warrants at Horek’s two residences located in the City of Ventura. As a result of the search warrants, firearm manufacturing equipment, ammunition, and 5 unregistered firearms were seized. In total 9 handguns, 2 AR-15’s, and 2 assault weapons were located. These unregistered firearms are commonly referred to as “Ghost Guns” because they are privately made firearms that lack serial numbers or markings.

Joshua Horek was arrested for various firearm offenses, including Penal Code § 30600(a) – Manufacturing of Assault Weapons]. He was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a court date of 08/28/2020.
