Suspect arrested for “keying” victim’s vehicle after his actions were captured by the vehicle’s recording system.
On 01/10/23, the victim discovered his vehicle had significantly deep scratches made into the vehicle’s paint. The victim’s vehicle is a Tesla, which is equipped with a video monitoring system. When the victim reviewed the video footage, he saw it captured the suspect’s actions, which occurred on 01/08/23. After filing a crime report, the victim posted the video on social media. After the video was posted, several citizens contacted the Thousand Oaks Police Department and identified the suspect as Douglas Kennett.
On 01/17/23, detectives with the East County Major Crimes Unit contacted Kennett at his residence and took him into custody. They also served a search warrant at Kennett’s residence, which resulted in the collection of evidence believed to be related to the crime.
