BACKGROUND: Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D – Thousand Oaks) will hold a press conference in the City of Ventura to announce $1M secured in the 2021-22 State Budget for the Ventura County Family Justice Center (VCFJC) Oxnard Satellite Office. Both the legislator and guest speakers will cover details on the need for the state funding.
The center, which opened in Ventura two years ago, has been serving as a one-stop shop of collaborative resources from more than 40 public agencies and community-based organizations and volunteers dedicated to working together to help survivors of trauma dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, child abuse, hate crime, human trafficking, and other assaults. More than a third of the people who have received help at the Ventura site are Oxnard residents. Nearly a quarter are Mixteco or only speak Spanish and have limited transportation options.
The satellite office in Oxnard would allow for a closer location, focusing on Mixteco and Spanish speaking community members. The work there would also include essential services such as counseling, support groups, and help with restraining orders.
Assemblymember Irwin allocated the funding through the California Office of Emergency Services to help better serve Oxnard residents. Assemblymember Irwin requested this funding after meeting with District Attorney Erik Nasarenko following his January appointment.

Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin represents California’s 44th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Camarillo, Moorpark, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and Santa Rosa Valley.
