Brad Cummings: California earthquakes are a wakeup call

    By Michael Hernandez

(Editor’s Note:  Brad Cummings is a Hollywood screenwriter, Bible editor and former pastor.  He is scheduled to appear on the Jim Baker show July 9-10.)

NEWBURY PARK—“The July 4th earthquake was a wake up call of a voice crying in the wilderness (like John the Baptist)—a trumpet call calling us to the threshing floor,” said Brad Cummings, a Hollywood screenwriter, Bible editor and former Vineyard pastor at Godspeak Calvary’s Sunday evening monthly prayer service attended by 50.  “King David built the temple on the threshing floor where the Ark fell off the cart,”  said Cummings.  “It is on the threshing floor where the chaff is removed from the wheat.”

Cummings referred to the Ridgecrest earthquake on July 4th that registered 6.4 on the Richter scale by reading Isaiah 64:1:  “Oh, that you would rend the heavens!  That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence.” The next day a 7.1 earthquake was registered which should have created havoc but it did not, he said.

Cummings said he was coming back from a taping on the Jim and Lori Baker PTL show in Branson, Missouri that took 10 extra hours to return because of flight delays.    The senior editor of the Founders Bible authored by historian David Barton had been invited to share about America’s history prior to Independence Day celebrations nationwide.

“Heaven’s purposes for the American Revolution were not achieved because God wanted all men created equal,” said Cummings.  “Of the original 13 colonies which became states—11 wanted no slaves but two still wanted slavery.

“This failure made the Civil War inevitable.   The Civil War abolished slavery and the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were added to the Constitution.   But both sides (North and South) failed in the reconstruction efforts that followed.  This failure necessitated the Civil Rights movement of the 60s.

“Today, we are facing a Second American Revolution that is just as inevitable…It is a culture war where two sides are happy to destroy one another and to even destroy the fabric of the land.

“(Abraham) Lincoln was assassinated for showing leniency to the Confederates.  He wanted to re-unite the nation.  I believe the purposes of the Lord will prevail in America.

“We need to be honest and take responsibility.   Americans are called to the “supremacy of individual conscience; to establish a non-coercive society; and the practice of self-government.

“This is what the Pilgrims did.  Two-thirds of them were non-believers and one-half of them died in the first year.  But they understood both the laws of nature (the God of the Bible) and the laws of God (moral law).

“We must (agree to) let people disagree.   In our pursuit of the good life, humans can flourish in understanding the life of virtue and who gives us, unalienable rights and it is not the government.

“We are not engaging with our neighbors.  We have (instead) gathered in tribes (but need) to say ‘yes’ to the Lord’s purposes (so they) will prevail.”
