    Charges Filed in Fatal Port Hueneme Hit-and-Run Collision

    VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Anthony Macias (DOB 09/21/92), of Oxnard, has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit and run resulting in death for the killing of John Romero, of Port Hueneme, on September 30, 2020.

    On September 30, 2020, officers from the Port Hueneme Police Department arrested Macias for the death of Mr. Romero. Mr. Romero died after being struck by Macias’ vehicle while traveling in the bike lane on Ventura Road. Macias fled the scene but later returned to speak to police. Macias was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

    Macias is scheduled to appear for arraignment on October 2, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Macias is currently in custody with bail set at $1 million.
