CITY OF PORT HUENEME COMMEMORATING 75TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A PICTORIAL POSTMARK

    News Release

The United States Post Office (USPS) is joining with the City of Port Hueneme to
offer a unique pictorial postmark that will be offered on March 24, 2023, the official
anniversary date of the City’s incorporation.

The Postal Service will set up a temporary retail station that will be located in the entrance to the Port Hueneme City Hall, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by mail order if you are unable to attend in person.

Mayor Bobby Martinez will introduce Isaac Zuniga, Oxnard Postmaster, who will hand over the pictorial postmark to Orvene Carpenter, the longest serving Port Hueneme Council member of 29 years, former Mayor, and retired Port Hueneme and Oxnard Postmaster, to issue the first Pictorial Postmark hand cancellation. Mr. Carpenter celebrates his 98th year and is honored to be designated in providing the first hand cancellation.

He is also delighted in returning to City Hall, where he was present when ground was broken for its opening in 1973. Postmaster Zuniga stated, “We are proud to be a part of this special ceremony commemorating the anniversary of Port Hueneme.

The United States Postal Service has been an integral part of this community for many years, and we are honored to celebrate this important milestone alongside the people of Port Hueneme,” said Port Hueneme Postmaster Isaac Zuniga. “We hope that this
special collector’s postmark will serve as a lasting reminder of the rich history and
vibrant culture of this great city, and we look forward to continuing to serve the
community for many years to come.”

“This is a wonderful time in the City’s history and I am honored to be a part of the
celebration. We thank the USPS for its continued commitment to Port Hueneme
and service to our residents,” stated Mayor Martinez.

The Pictorial Postmark was designed using the City’s 75th Anniversary logo and
framed with a scroll border to signify our beach community. (see picture)
Along with hand cancelling using the Pictorial Postmark, the temporary retail
    station will be selling stamps.

No other postal services will be offered. The Postal Service will provide hand-back service,  where a customer personally presents an addressed or unaddressed envelope, postal card, or other item with sufficient First-Class Mail postage to the postal service clerk at the temporary station.

The clerk applies the pictorial postmark and hands the item back to the customer.
Please bring any stamped mail that you would like stamped in commemoration of
    the City’s 75th Anniversary.

If you are unable to attend, the Postal Service provides
mail-back service where customers can mail pre-stamped envelopes and cards to
the Port Hueneme Post Office to receive your pictorial postmark.

The address is 560 E. Pleasant Valley Road, Port Hueneme, CA 93041. To qualify for this service, mail-in requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the actual
pictorial postmark date of March 24th.
