Coast Guard Response Boat On Display At 25th Fall Festival

MOORPARK, CA. The United Stated Coast Guard Auxiliary will display a high speed 29 foot Response Boat and members will be hand to help answer your questions about safe recreational boating during the Public Safety Weekend at Underwood Family Farm’s “25th Annual Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday and Sunday October 1- 2, 2022.
The Coast Guard’s 29-foot response boat is a high-speed deployable asset designed to operate year-round in shallow waters along coast boarders. The missions of the small boats are search and rescue, recreational boating safety, enforcement of laws and treaties, marine environmental protection, defense operations, and port, waterways and coastal security.

Auxiliarist Patrick Newburn, Public Affairs Officer said, “This is a fun and informative event for the whole family to see and learn about the life saving operations of the Coast Guard.”

Coast Guard Auxiliarists will provide safety information on recreational boating, boating safety class registration, free vessel safety checks, current federal laws, and importance of wearing life jackets. The overarching mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is to contribute to the safety and security of citizens, ports, waterways and coastal regions. Newburn said, “The Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to join the 21,000 men and women uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard.”

“We do what we do to save lives”, says Auxiliarist Robert Hamming, Division Commander-elect. Active duty U.S. Coast Guard recruiters will also attend on Saturday, to explain the opportunity to enlist and serve the nation. The Coast Guard is looking to introduce enlisted and officer career opportunities to talented, under-represented communities. “Coasties” as the active duty are called, represent all spectrums of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, culture, and geographic origin.

In addition to the Coast Guard display, the annual event features emergency response vehicles and displays from Ventura County Sheriff Department, Search and Rescue, Bomb Squad, Explorers, Volunteers in Policing, Ventura County Fire Department, EMS, and other local First Responders.

So the Coast Guard is going to haul a 29 foot boat from Oxnard all the way to Moorpark and back. Yup, sure seems like a good use of taxpayer dollars. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, it is charged off to recruiting effort. Still seems like a waste of money to me. They could spend half the money offering rides in the harbor to teens and get more bang for their buck.
