LA County Board of Supervisor Hilda Solis staged a press conference at the Pomona Fairplex on Friday to announce that 250 of the unaccompanied minors will be arriving at the Pomona Fairplex on Saturday, May 1.
“The Pomona Fairplex should not be converted into a temporary shelter for border crossers who are minors,” Robin Hvidston, Executive Director, We The People Rising and CA State Coordinator, The Remembrance Project, said. “Pomona is plagued with a homelessness crisis, teenage sex trafficking, children living at the poverty level and crime. In addition, there are more than 400,000 U.S. foster kids nationwide that need help. Pomona Fairplex should help American citizens!”
The Washington Post reported at the beginning of April that the Biden administration is spending $60 million a week to house the minors.
“The smuggling cartels are making a profit by trafficking children to the U.S., so the Pomona Fairplex becomes a link in that human trafficking chain by housing the children,” Hvidston said. “The federal government via Human Health Services rather than spend millions of our tax dollars funding temporary shelters for smuggled children from other countries, should be helping American children!’
Hvidston is joining with other groups such as Concerned Citizens and America First Latinos in contacting the Pomona Fairplex to encourage them to end the housing contract with Human Health Services and, instead, help the homeless, veterans and the more than 400,000 U.S. foster kids.
