Culver City Based Organization to Host Event in Support of deaf Children and Families

The #NoLimits Campaign takes place on April 17 and includes members of the No Limits community sharing their stories on social media and a virtual all-day event, in order to help break the negative stigma surrounding deafness

No Limits for deaf Children and Families, a 501(c)3 organization providing programming for underserved deaf children (birth to 21 years) and their families, is excited to celebrate their silver anniversary with their new #NoLimits 25th Anniversary Campaign. Taking place on April 17, the organization’s social media channels will highlight members of the No Limits community by sharing stories of what they can do with #NoLimits. These stories will be shared throughout the day, as well as an all-day virtual event from 10:00am-4:00pm PST via Zoom.

“We are so thankful to be able to provide free resources changing deaf children’s lives for the past 25 years,” said Dr. Michelle Christie, Founder and Executive Director of No Limits for deaf Children and Families and CNN Hero. “Our goal with this campaign is to educate and empower about the needs and triumphs of people with hearing loss. From teachers, journalists, violin players and successful college students, we want everyone to know just how incredible our children are and that nothing is stopping them from continuing to live their life with #NoLimits.”

For the campaign, No Limits for deaf children and families is asking their community to submit their stories via email or social media including comments and direct messages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Stories will be shared for No Limits’ 25th Anniversary on April 17, followed by a virtual celebration. The event is free to the public and will include an uplifting message from Dr. Michelle Christie, a master class by the author of Not Fade Away being made into a Netflix movie Rebecca Alexander who is also a psychotherapist, and disability rights advocate, comedy by deaf comic and featured on the Tonight Show and Good Morning America, Kathy Buckley and friends, as well as a panel from No Limits, and more! A full schedule of the day’s events can be found here. As an additional effort to continue their work towards destigmatizing deafness, No Limits for deaf children and families is encouraging donations of $25, $250, $2,500, $250,000 and beyond, in celebration of their 25th year to continue their incredible work towards empowering deaf children and their families to dream big!

Founded in 1996, Dr. Michelle Christie recognized the lack of opportunities for children with a hearing loss to improve their speaking abilities in a fun and non-academic setting and started as an after-school theater program designed to help develop communication skills, expand vocabulary and grammar, and understand character development. Over the course of 25 years, No Limits has produced 180 original shows with an outreach of over 500,000 people witnessing the accomplishments and talents of these inspiring children and has extended its program beyond the theatrical arts to provide auditory, speech and language training year-round. As a result of the comprehensive No Limits program, children who are deaf or hard of hearing are learning essential skills that will allow them to attend college and become successful, productive members of society.
